Discussing the Coloration Mechanism of Luodian Jade from Guizhou

Lei Wang, Jinhui Lin, Taiping Ye, Jing Tan, Bing Wang, Lin Yang
In this paper, we have discussed the coloration mechanism based on visible absorption spectra testing by selecting three typical samples of Luodian jade with white, pallor and cyan. The attribution analysis of absorption spectra showed that absorption of Luodian jade in visible light mainly includes charge transfer spectrum of Fe2 → Ti4 (at 490 nm - 500 nm) and Fe2 → Fe3 (at 523 nm - 536 nm, 646 nm - 657 nm), electron transition 6A1 → 4T2 (4G) of Fe3 (at 615 nm - 632 nm, 685 nm - 694 nm) an...

Toxicity of Binary Mixtures of Phenol, Zinc and Cadmium to Yeast Strains Isolated from Hydrocarbon Impacted Soil

O. R. Nlemolisa, C. E. Nwanyanwu, C. O. Akujobi, F. C. Ihenetu, R. C. Nwokorie, C. C. Obasi, U. N. Kemka, K. H. Uzoho, M. C. Nwoke
Toxicity of zinc, cadmium and phenol and their binary mixtures were determined based on inhibition of dehydrogenase activities of yeasts strains isolated from hydrocarbon impacted soil. The yeasts isolated from the hydrocarbon impacted soil were identified as Saprochaete sp. and Cryptococcus sp. The toxicity of chemicals and their mixtures were evaluated in the concentration range of 0 - 16 mM for phenol, 0 - 5 mM for zinc and 0 - 0.4 mM for cadmium. The binary mixture ratios were evaluated. The...

An Investigation on Weldability of Flared D9 Tube to Cylindrical SS316L (N) Plug Using Electro-Magnetic Compression Welding

Satendra Kumar, G. K. Dey, Archana Sharma
Geometry configurations of joining partners (similar/dissimilar metals) are important to achieve effective and smooth joint in electromagnetic (EM) compression welding. Accordingly, design of welding tool (multi-turn coil) becomes challenging [1]. EM welding of flared D9 flyer tube to SS316 L (N) straight cylindrical plug has been performed under a discharge voltage of 15 - 17 kV with coil current 230 - 250 kA at

A Review of Stress Corrosion Cracking of Welded Stainless Steels

Ekaterina A. Krivonosova
This article gives a brief review of scientific researches of high-alloyed chromium-nickel steels stress corrosion cracking (SCC) process of welded joints. Welded joints are one of the most complex objects from the standpoint of the general theory of corrosion fatigue of metals. During their operation a number of problems arise related to the heterogeneity of the material properties, the complexity of the structure, the presence o

Hot Rolling of Large Gears

Dirk Landgrebe, Andreas Sterzing, Mike Lahl, Thomas Druwe, Anne Manuela Taubert
Forming processes are generally characterized by a high degree of material utilization as well as short process times and, consequently, a decent economic efficiency. Furthermore, incremental forming enables the use of relatively low forming forces which results in a more compact design of the used machines. These conveniences are utilized in terms of roll forming with round tools to form gears and thread

The Processability Improvement of Duplex Stainless Steel

Shangtan Liu, Jann van Benthem
This paper focuses on the duplex stainless steel processability and presents many practical technological approaches which are applied in many steel companies on how to improve the processability. First, take into consideration an appropriate hot working temperature; second, make sure cooling rate higher than 15℃/s; and third, conduct annealing treatment before delivery.

A Study on Cementation Process of Lead from Brine Leaching Solution by Aluminum Powder

P. Abdollahi, H. Yoozbashizadeh, D. Moradkhani, D. Behnian
Hydrometallurgical recycling of lead from zinc plant residue which occurs at leaching plant has been investigated. After determination of optimum parameters in the brine leaching stage, the pregnant solution was proposed on cementation process by Aluminum powder and parameters (time, temperature, initial pH of solution, initial lead content of solution, Al:Pb fraction, stirring velocity) were investigated and optimized.

The Influence of the Carbon Surface on the Rate of Copper Recovery from Slag of the Direct-to-Blister Process

Piotr Madej, Marian Kucharski
The study was devoted to the investigation of the influence of the carbon reducer’s surface on the rate of the copper removal (in the form of a copper-reach alloy, Cu-Pb-Fe) from the slag produced in the flash direct-to-blister process at the Glogów smelter in Poland. The slag used in this work was taken from the direct-to-blister Outokumpu flash furnace at the smelter in Glogów. Graphite penetrators of different surfaces were used as the slag reducer, and the experiments were carried out at 157...

Prospects of Introduction of Fiber Lasers for Laser Heat Treatment of Ferrous Metals

Vladislav Somonov
The article reflects the results of the study of the process of hardening of steels radiation fiber laser and the increase of productivity of process of laser hardening due to implementation of fiberoptic lasers instead of CO2 and the increase of the coefficient of absorption of laser radiation and the exclusion of the necessity to use absorbing coating. The research studied the structure of the hardened layer, compared with the structure of the obtained on CO2 laser, and p...

Estimation of Trace Elements in Fly Ash Released from Coal Combustion

Ali A. Eltayeib

Qingshan Thermoelectric Plant located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, and it uses coal as a fuel. Coal combustion generates not only gaseous pollutants like SO2 and NOx but also toxic and heavy metals to the atmosphere. From the environmental point of view, the determination and speciation of trace toxic and heavy metals released from coal combustion are very important. In this work, the atomic spectroscopic methods for determination of so
