Kernel PCA Based Non-Local Means Method for Speckle Reduction in Medical Ultrasound Images

Musab Elkheir Salih, Xuming Zhang, Mingyue Ding
The speckle noise is considered one of the main causes of degradation in ultrasound image quality. Many despeckling filters have been proposed, which are always making a trade-off between noise suppression and loss of information. A class of despeckling methods based Non-Local Means (NLM) algorithm is known to efficiently preserve the edges and all fine details of an image while reducing the noise. The core idea of NLM filter is to estimate the denoised pixel by performing a weighted average of ...

Investigation of Loss of Consciousness Induced by Gravity Acceleration on the Human Brain

Abbas Shafiee, Amirhossein Ahmadian, Mohammadali Alidoost
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s) are any disorder in a brain’s functionality that can be caused by numerous reasons, including motor-vehicle crashes, falls, and assaults. Impractical in-vivo head injury experiments compel bio- engineers to develop a robust, accurate, and efficient computer model. In this study, bovine brain samples were tested under a confined compression testing machine. Consequently, the result from unconfined compression tests, at quasi-static strain rates of ε=0.0004...

Wnt5a Role in Cisplatin Effect and Selectivity Augmentation in Cancer Therapy

Waleed O. Atta, Ahmed Z. Abdel Azeiz
Wnt5a is a representative protein ligand that activates a beta catenin independent pathway in Wnt signaling in cancer progression and spread in the palmitoylated form. So that its synthesis is augmented through promotion of its gene transcription in the malignant cells. Cisplatin is an important chemotherapeutic drug used in treatment of different types of advanced cancer. However, its usage is limited due to severe dose-limiting side effects, due to the lack of targeting therapy of cisplatin. O...

Production of α-Amylase by Bacillus subtilis QM3 and its Enzymatic Properties

Qingping Hu, Jingjing Liu
Alpha-amylase is a starch hydrolyzing enzyme which has many industrial applications. In this study, Bacillus subtilis QM3 has ability to produce α-amylase. Identification was done by iodine test, based on the clear zone around the sample in starch agar plates. Alpha-amylase activity was measured using 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS). The result showed B. subtilis QM3 can produce α-amylase and activity of α-amylase was 50.58 IU/mL. The study on enzymatic properties was found: the optimum temperat...

Study on the Adsorption of Heavy Metal by Extracellular Polymeric Substances Extracted from Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W

Qingping Hu, Xiaoqi Liu
The negatively charged coordination groups on the structure of these biomolecules, which is the main components of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), have good adsorption efficiency for heavy metals. In this paper, EPS form Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W which was extracted by EDTA method, and the effects of pH, EPS dosage, adsorption time and initial metal concentration on the adsorption regularity of Cu2 and Pb2 ions on EPS structure were studied respectively, as well as the adsorp...

Response Surface Methodology to Optimize Degradation on Phenol by Pseudomonas stutzeri ZH-1

Yong Yan, Qingping Hu
In order to obtain the optimal conditions for the degradation of phenol by Pseudomonas stutzeri ZH-1, based on the single factor experiment, the Box Behnken design test of Response Surface Method was used. Four variables of glucose concentration (0.4, 0.6, 0.8 g/L), inoculation concentration (3%, 5%, 7%), pH (6, 7, 8) and temperature (35°C, 37.5°C, 40°C) were used to identify the significant effects and interactions in the batch studies. A second order polynomial regression mo...

Estimation of the Randomness of Heart Rhythm Using Fractal Characteristics

Abdullaev Namik Tahir, Ibrahimova Irada Javad
The article discusses the characteristics of the fractality of heart rate variability represented by a time series. An algorithm for calculating the Hurst exponent is presented, which allows one to evaluate the degree of chaotization of the signal in question. The capabilities of various multifractal analysis programs are shown, which require the use of different mathematical models.

Study on Preparation of Bio-Oil from Wheat Straw by Hydrothermal Liquefaction

Dongyu Guo, Jun Wang
Wheat straw is an ideal green renewable resource, which is widely used as fertilizers, feedstuffs, edible funguses, industrial raw materials and fuels. Hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass that works under normal or slightly pressurized conditions results in higher oil quality. We summarize the technical principles of hydrothermal liquefaction, analyze the difficulties and problems in the utilization of various technologies, and put forward the development trend of promoting the application of b...

Effects of Light on Saccharide Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery by Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W

Qingping Hu, Xiaoli Gao
Photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) wastewater treatment is a new method with great resource recovery potential. In order to improve the biomass and valuable resources of bacteria in the wastewater treatment of photosynthetic bacteria, the effects of different light conditions on the efficiency of Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W in the treatment of sugar wastewater and the production of bacteria and carotenoids in the wastewater were analyzed from three aspects of light source, light intensity and l...

Removing Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (ARB) Carrying Genes (ARGs): Challenges and Future Trends

Djamel Ghernaout, Noureddine Elboughdiri
Developed control of chemical disinfection techniques is beginning to be pro-gressively significant in order to equilibrate under-treatment (minimal pathogen demobilization) and over-treatment (immoderate consumption of disinfectant and disinfection by-products generation) that way giving great ecological and economic advantages. This work reviews the most recent and pertinent re-searches in this field of eliminating Antibiotic-re
