Ultraviolet Light (UV)-Induced Photocatalytic Degradation of Diclofenac Using Naturally Derived TiO2@rGO Composite

Lorenz E. Borromeo, Lea P. Bongat, John Patrick S. Nunez, Kirby F. Mendioro, Jocelyn R. Balisnomo
Diclofenac (DCF) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain in joint-related diseases. It is not completely metabolized after consumption and cannot be easily removed using conventional wastewater treatment. DCF has been detected in water bodies and may pose chronic effects on the endocrines of living organisms even at low-level exposure. Heterogeneous photocatalysis provides an alternative and efficient method of degrading DCF. In this study, the photocatalytic remov...

Design and Optimization of Pyroelectric-Polymer Composites for Infrared Sensing and Energy Harvesting

Alakananda Bandyopadhyay, Ashok Batra, George Taylor, Sharvare Palwai
In this paper, efforts have been made to investigate, and compute general formulae of the pyroelectric coefficient and figure-of-merit of pyroelectric-polymer composite for uncooled infrared detector and energy harvesting, using volume fraction, depolarization coefficient of particles and dielectric constants of the constituents.

Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, Toughness, Wear Characteristics and Fracture Phenomena of Austenitised and Austempered Low-Alloyed Ductile Iron

Nabil Fatahalla, Osama Hussein
Conventional ductile iron (DI) and austempered ductile iron (ADI) alloys were successfully produced. The alloying elements—Ni, Mo, Cr and Mn were added to get as-cast low-alloyed ductile iron (LADI) followed by austempering heat treatment. Hardness was measured for all investigated alloys. A hardness conversion table was deduced for irons investigated. Highest values of calculated quality index (QI) were for ADI alloys implying higher material performance. Impact energy values were attributed to...

The Basic Problems of Contemporary Scientific View of the World

Joseph J. Smulsky
Contemporary scientific view of micro- and macro-world was built on a chain of successive hypotheses, each link of which has no reliable evidence. The examples of scientific concepts “Big Bang” and “neutrino” show the formation of erroneous hypotheses that lead to the emergence of these concepts. In addition, the accepted hypotheses lead to the emergence of new objects of scientific vision of the world, which in the real world are absent. The paper proves the fallacy of hypotheses about the depe...

Structural Analysis and Normalised Susceptibility Study of Zn Substituted Li-Cu Ferrite

Sujata S. Khot, Neelam S. Shinde, Nathani Basavaiah, Shrikant C. Watawe, Milind M. Vaidya

Lithium ferrites have attracted considerable attention because they have been used as replacements for garnets due to their low cost. A series of polycrystalline ferrite samples with the composition of LixZn0.6-2xCu0.4Fe2O4 (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3) at different chemical reaction temperature (100℃, 125℃ and 150℃) were prepared using non-conventional microwave sinterin
