iBusiness (IB) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ib.2013.52006
Abstract:

Organizational diagnosis is the process of diagnosing an organizational health, finding pathogens if any and finally removing those pathogens through some corrective actions. In order to perform an effective diagnosis, the first step is to identify the organization’s health types. In this paper we propose three basic states of an organization with respect to the health of the organization. These three states in which an organization can be at any point of time are performing, stable and disarranged. Every state has its own characteristics, which can be measured through the extended diagnostic model. Based on those measurements diagnostician can classify an organization to be in one of the states. Finally the diagnostician suggests corrective actions for the stable or disarranged states to move the organization to the performing state.

Journal of Human Resource and Sustainability Studies (JHRSS) , 2024, DOI: 10.4236/jhrss.2024.123026
Abstract: Reforming police organizations is essential to meet the demands of contemporary policing. However, many such organizations fail to provide efficient and effective services. Existing literature suggests that these shortcomings often stem from issues related to leadership, organizational culture, and the ability to manage change effectively. This study examines the impact of leadership culture and organizational change on police performance through a comparative analysis of two distinct police organizations: the Dubai Police Force (DPF) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), whose performance records contrast sharply. The findings indicate that while both organizations’ performance is influenced by their organizational behavior, each has a distinct approach. The DPF, driven by transformational leadership, fosters a culture of innovation and strategic planning, allowing it to effectively manage change with minimal resistance. This proactive approach has had a positive ripple effect on the DPF’s performance, contributing to its overall success. In contrast, the NPF, characterized by a bureaucratic and dictatorial leadership style, stifles employee commitment and innovation. This has led to poor performance and high resistance to change, despite an acknowledged need for reform. Some officers remain entrenched in corrupt practices, further inhibiting progress. The primary objective of this paper is to offer recommendations for enhancing the performance of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) by fostering improved organizational behavior. This includes promoting transformative leadership, cultivating a positive organizational culture, and securing buy-in for effective organizational change.

Abstract: Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach, we conducted a systematic review of 58 public administration studies of organizational socialization. Organizational socialization is the process of mutual adaptation between an organization and its new members. Our findings demonstrate a growing but geographically disparate interest in this issue. Public administration studies contribute to this research area with novel insights into the determinants of organizational socialization and its effects on employees’ public service motivation, Eurocrats’ support of supranational institutions, person–organization fit, and differences in the socialization of male and female public employees. The review also shows that the effects of organizational socialization on the homogenization of employees’ attitudes should not be exaggerated, especially relative to other homogenizing factors such as attraction or selection effects. The reviewed articles are methodologically eclectic, with a recent but growing interest in longitudinal designs. There are also weaknesses in the operationalization of organizational socialization. We conclude with an agenda for future studies on organizational socialization in public administration research

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2016.412005
Abstract:
On the basis of theoretical research, this paper constructs the relationship model of perceived organizational support, organizational identification, employee engagement and organizational justice. With questionnaires from 350 employees in 28 provinces, we empirically tested that the organizational identification plays a mediating role and organizational justice has a moderating effect by using the correlation analysis and structural equation model and regression analysis. The results show that: firstly, perceived organizational support and employee engagement have significantly positive correlation, perceived organizational support applies directly positive influence on employee engagement; secondly, perceived organizational support can also play a role in employee engagement through organizational identification, in other words, organizational identification has partial mediating effect between perceived organizational support and employee engagement; thirdly, this paper verified that organizational justice plays a moderating role on the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational identification.

Journal of Human Resource and Sustainability Studies (JHRSS) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/jhrss.2020.83012
Abstract: This paper aims to record and analyze the existing organizational culture of general public hospitals and investigate the model of culture that the executives of the hospitals wish to see prevailing in the next 5-year period. The survey was conducted in twenty-six (26) general public hospitals of the region of Athens. The sample consists of 656 top and senior executives of the four departments of hospitals (medical, nursing, administrative, technical). The executives were asked to provide assessments using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI), based on the Competing Values Framework of Cameron & Quinn. The results of the survey show that the dominant organizational culture, in hospitals, can be described by the Bureaucratic Culture model (47.75% of respondents). The model of Clan Culture (23.76%) comes second while the Entrepreneurial-Adhocracy Culture model and the Market Culture model scored 10.02% and 14.46% respectively. The desired culture model is the Clan Culture or Participatory model (34.51%), followed by the Market Culture model (24.47%), model of Entrepreneurial-Adhocracy Culture model (22.49%), and finally the Bureaucratic Culture model (19.03%). In the existing situation, general public hospitals are characterized by internal orientation, observance of rules and processes as well as focus on control hierarchy, predictability and stability. The model of Entrepreneurial-Adhocracy Culture and the model of Market Culture, which both focus on the exterior macro-environment and growth for the hospital, record small percentages. As far as the future is concerned, hospital executives would like to see a change from the Bureaucratic Culture model of organization, to the direction of Participatory model, which will include elements of flexibility, creativity, dynamism and competitiveness that are inherent in the other two models (Market and Entrepreneurial-Adhocracy). The focus remains on the internal environment of hospitals but at the same time there is evidence of the wish to look into the external environment of hospital as well.
