An investigation about tafseer methodology in the book Kur’an-? Kerim ve Tefsiri
- , 2019,
Abstract: Prof. Dr. ?smail Cerraho?lu, who is one of the well-known scholars of Qur’anic interpretation in theology faculties in Turkey, had a considerable impact on tafseer researches. It is of great importantance to examine his tafseer methodology, given the fact that he pionered writing boks on history and methodology of tafseer which are still used as textbooks in theology faculties in Turkey. In the mean time, he supervised many undergraduate students who are recently well-known scholars in the field. Cerraho?lu together with professor Talat Ko?yi?it planned in 1983 to author a book titled as Translation and Commentary of the Qur’an which would consist of 6 volumes. However, they were only-able to complete and publish the first volume and the rest of volumes could not be brought to public attetion. This tafseer is an original work in terms of language, methodology, resources and interpretations. The verses in the tafseer are neither overwhelmed by narrations nor by unnecessary explanations. A clear language with a scholarly approach were used in such a way that everyone could understand. Besied, a critial approach was adopted in this book rather than mentioning widespread information and ideas in previous boks. Also, narratives related to israliyat were not accepted. Apart from this the commentaries which are out f context were reinterpreted as well as indicating some translation mistakes and showing alternatives to them. As result, an original tafseer book had emerged. In our study, we aim to investigate the methodology of Qur’anic interpretation for Cerraho?lu and identify the distinctive aspects of his approach. Our study covers the first volume of his tafseer which is the only published volüme. Although the research was co-authored by Cerrahoglu and Kocyigit, we only referred to Cerrahoglu as our main topic in this article

- , 2017,
Abstract: Background The global incidence and mortality of liver diseases is increasing. One of the major risk factors for liver cancer is the presence of liver cirrhosis. Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) are being sought as alternative medicines for liver diseases. This study evaluated the association between traditional Chinese herbal medicine and liver cancer in patients with liver cirrhosis. Methods The analytical data were collected from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Databases (LHID2005). Samples included patients with liver cirrhosis who sought Traditional Chinese medicine from 2001-2004. Diagnosis of liver cancer was from 2004-2010 using the ICD 9 codes 155 and A code A095. The Chi-square (χ2) test was used to test for associations while multivariate logistic regression was used to investigate the association between CM and liver cancer in cirrhotic patients. All statistics were analyzed using the SAS 9.2 software (Cary, NC, USA). Differences were considered significant at p-value< 0.05. Results From 2001-2004, a total of 8 145 individuals were identified with liver cirrhosis; 5 469 were men and 2 676 were women. Among the cirrhotic patients who sought TCM, 25.3% of men and 20.41% of women were identified with liver cancer. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed a significant odds ratio (OR) of 0.880 (95% CI 0.787-0.984) for liver cancer. However, when analyzed by gender, significant odds existed only in men (OR: 0.872, 95% CI 0.764-0.955). Conclusion There was a significant association between traditional Chinese medicine and liver cancer in men with cirrhosis

Microarray Analysis Identifies a Unique Molecular Signature of Human Thyroid Cancer Stem Cells

Abstract: Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is the most lethal type of thyroid cancer, with a mean survival of six months from the time of diagnosis. Using patient-derived ATC cell lines, we have recently shown that ATC contains a minority population of cancer stem cells that can grow as self-renewing, non-adherent thyrospheres. Compared to bulk tumor cells raised in monolayers, these thyrospheres have increased clonogenic and tumor-initiating potential, and they robustly initiate tumors that closely resemble human ATC when orthotopically implanted into the thyroids of immunodeficient mice. Here we use the Affymetrix GeneChip analysis to identify gene expression differences between thyrospheres and monolayer cells from the human ATC cell line THJ-11T. Our microarray analysis identified a total of 1,659 differentially expressed gene transcripts, many of which have been implicated in key pathways such as those governing cell proliferation, migration, invasion, vasculogenesis, and chemoresistance. These results indicate that thyroid cancer stem cells have a distinct molecular signature. These data will be helpful for the design of future therapeutic strategies that directly target thyroid cancer stem cells.

This article takes the problem of how to understand the word “Yi” in “Book of Changes” as the starting point, and attempts to explore the three meanings of Yi starting from “Yi Wei Qian Zao Du” from the standpoint of the history of classics and the history of the philosophical theories of ZHOU-YI. “Qian Zao Du” and other books were born in the last years of the Han Dynasty when the social crisis was becoming more and more serious. While the prophecy theology developed by the study of classics became popular, the orthodox status of the study of classics seemed to be shaken by the drawbacks brought by the prophecy theology derived from it. “Qian Zao Du” is to deal with this crisis. On the basis of inheriting the philosophical theories of ZHOU-YI from Jingfang, it re-interprets the philosophical thoughts of “Yi Zhuan”, cites Taoist cosmology for its own use, and builds a Yi Lun system that maintains the orthodox status of classics. As the core philosophical theory of the book “Qian Zao Du”, the three meanings of Yi, through “Yijian”, “Bianyi” and “Buyi” to build a cosmic ontology basis linking the Tian Dao and the Ren Dao. “Yijian” is the virtue of Yi, which is the center of the thought of the three meanings of Yi. “Bianyi” inherits the “Yi Zhuan” saying that everything in the world changes and circulates, and the generation and changes of yin and yang are used to connect heaven and man. The principle of the general rule is immutable, and there is no change in change. The theory of the three meanings of Yi provides metaphysical legitimacy for Confucian ethics, and also has a significant impact on the development of Chinese philosophy, especially the history of the philosophical theories of ZHOU-YI.

It is concerned in the basic problem of traditional studies of Yi Jing. The author believes that deconstructing the traditional studies of Yi Jing will help to construct the new theory of modern studies of Yi Jing. At present, the importance of this topic is not taken seriously and scholars engaged in research on the subject are also relatively few. In this paper, on the basis of commentary of the contemporary research work, a basic problem of traditional studies of Yi Jing is discussed in two aspects respectively. They are: 1) the development of traditional studies of Yi Jing; 2) the classification and nature of traditional studies of
On Mencius’ Key Philosophical Term: Yi C-E Translation in the Perspective of Reception Theory  [PDF]

Chinese Studies (ChnStd) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/chnstd.2018.74024
Abstract: Mencius keeps a record of political activities, doctrine and philosophy, moral principles and educational ideology of the whole life of Mencius by way of narration and dialogue and also describes the debate over the inborn goodness of human nature, being one of the most influential classic works, which has a profound influence on Chinese philosophy. With the guidance of Reception Theory, based on the corpus of James Legge, the Library of Chinese Classics (hereafter short for LCC) and D. C. Lau’s versions of Mencius, a comparative study will be conducted on the key philosophical term: Yi (义). Quantitative analysis shows that Yi rendered as “righteousness/righteous”, which is the most widely accepted in Legge’s and LCC’s versions with its frequency at the times of 95 and 77 respectively, however, Lau’s seems to be more various using words such as “right/rightness, duties and moral”. The results show that the version of Lau’s shares the same horizon of expectations with the source text while those of Legge’s and LCC’s with the target readers.
Research on the Ecological Wisdom of Traditional Dwellings of the Liangshan Yi Nationality Based on Regional Climate  [PDF]

Journal of Building Construction and Planning Research (JBCPR) , 2023, DOI: 10.4236/jbcpr.2023.112004
Abstract: As a typical building with ethnic and regional characteristics in southwest Chi-na, its construction skills contain rich local ecological wisdom. The detailed analysis of the climatic and geomorphological features of the Liangshan Yi nationality area shows that the thermal mass effect is the first choice for the passive adjustment strategy of residential dwellings. This study focuses on the typical representatives of traditional dwellings in Meigu County, analyzing the wisdom of ecological construction to improve the thermal mass effects of res-idential buildings at the macro (village), moderate (courtyard), and micro (building unit) levels. Based on this analysis, the study summarizes the “genetic factor library” of the ecological construction mode of traditional Yi residential dwellings. Finally, the measured data of the residential thermal environment and the simulation data of Ecotect software are used to study and judge the logic behind its ecological construction wisdom. The results show that the tradi-tional dwellings of the Yi nationality in Liangshan have six aspects of local en-vironmental knowledge to improve the thermal mass effects performance of buildings. The winter thermal environment of the house is comfortable, and the heat is sufficient; Rammed earth materials in residential buildings have more potent, powerful, and robust thermal mass effects performance than stone slabs and wooden boards.

“Anren” is the highest realm in the theoretical system of Confucianism, but Confucius spent his entire life without a single person of Anren. Therefore, Confucius found it extremely difficult to directly reach the realm of benevolence. He hoped that the majority of benevolence could reach the standard of “righteousness” as an external morality, and with the assistance of “propriety”, achieve the minimum level of “benevolence”. Only on the basis of “benevolence” can one truly reach the realm of “benevolence”. The article discusses the relationship between benevolence and righteousness, benevolence and ritual, in order to explore the ways that Confucius found to achieve benevolence.
