Advances in Applied Sociology (AASoci) , 2026, DOI: 10.4236/aasoci.2026.162012
Abstract: This study examines the cultivation of interpersonal values among junior high school students from the perspective of filial piety culture. Drawing on questionnaire data from 786 students, it investigates the relationships among filial piety beliefs, value orientations, and interpersonal relationships. The results show that students exhibit higher levels of reciprocal filial piety than authoritarian filial piety. Moreover, filial piety beliefs are positively associated with constructive value orientations, including collectivism and family affection. A formal mediation analysis confirmed that positive values (collectivism, family affection, peer relationship) significantly mediate the relationship between reciprocal filial piety and interpersonal relationship quality, providing empirical evidence for the proposed causal pathway. Reciprocal filial piety, in particular, is positively related to interpersonal trust and parent-child closeness. Based on these findings, the study proposes a multidimensional cultivation model centered on filial piety culture, which integrates filial piety education into moral education through curriculum development, experiential activities, and immersive campus culture. This model offers a practical framework for promoting healthy interpersonal values among junior high school students.

Rie Akamatsu
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2011.27096
Abstract: The aims of the present study were to group junior high school students according to factors influencing their snack choice and identify differences between the characteristics and snack choice behaviors of the groups. An anonymous self-report questionnaire was administered to 1936 students (13 - 15 years old) in eight junior high schools in Tokyo, Japan. The students responded to the Snack Choice Questionnaire (SCQ) as well as questions concerning snacking behaviors, lifestyles, and demographics. Cluster analysis was applied to sort the sample according to SCQ scores. Each cluster’s characteristics were examined by gender using the χ2 test or the Kruskal-Wallis test with a Bonferroni adjustment. Participants were divided into four groups: high in all factors, low in all factors, low value in health, and value in health. The “value in health” group was composed of more girls than boys and the “low in all factors” group had fewer girls than boys. Those in the “high in all factors” and “low value in health” groups indicated that they consumed more snacks. Moreover, gender differences were revealed. By assessing the SCQ prior to providing nutrition education, we can obtain valuable information to make nutrition education planning.

Tomoko Nakamura, Ayako Sasaki
Health (Health) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/health.2020.128070
Abstract: Objective: To understand the state of education for the prevention of cervical cancer and trends in research. The subject of cervical cancer prevention will be examined. Method: Articles from the ICHUSHI Web version 5, CiNii, and PubMed databases for the period from 2009-2019 were used. Search terms used were cervical cancer, HPV/human papillomavirus, prevention, public awareness, and education. Results: 17 articles (9 Japanese and 8 English) were analyzed. The majority of students had heard of cervical cancer but did not know of the link between it and HPV. Vaccinated individuals were significantly more likely to have deeper knowledge regarding cervical cancer and HPV. Various factors affect the vaccination rate. These include knowledge of HPV and cervical cancer, age, ethnicity, the organization or location which administers the vaccine, how to breach the subject, finances, and the opinions of friends and family. In particular, consultations with parents lead to mothers recognizing the importance of the vaccine. By way of educational intervention, opinions have grown more positive about advancing awareness, being vaccinated, and having cervical cancer screenings for the future. Conclusion: The prevention of cervical cancer requires support and fostering the judgement based on sufficient awareness and adequate education. What we need is educational intervention rooted firmly in the current societal climate aimed not only at students, but at their parents as well.
Scholastic Achievement Levels and Conformity of Junior High School Students in the Asch Experiment  [PDF]
Akitoshi Uchida, Robert B. Michael, Kazuo Mori
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2020.119083
Abstract: We examined the influence of scholastic achievement levels on conformity behavior in the modified Asch experiment without using confederates (Mori & Arai, 2010). Four hundred and sixteen Japanese junior high school students (12 - 14 years old) were classified into three groups based on their scholastic achievement: high, middle, and low. We then created 22 same-sex groups (half male, half female). Each group included one high or low achievement “minority” student and three “majority” students who were all high or all low achievement students. The results showed that low achievement students in the minority role tended to conform more frequently than high achievement minority students—especially when amongst a high achievement majority. In addition, low achievement females showed more frequent conformity than low achievement males.

Objective: To examine physical and mental health status, group differences, and the association between physical fitness and mental health among rural junior high school students in Huizhou and Heyuan, Guangdong Province. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used. Physical fitness test records and Mental Health Test (MHT) data from six rural junior high schools in Huizhou and Heyuan were matched at the individual level, yielding 4,048 valid cases. Independent-samples t tests, one-way analysis of variance, chi-square tests, Pearson correlation analyses, and multivariable linear regression were conducted. A quadratic BMI term was additionally tested for a potential nonlinear association with the total MHT score. Results: The mean physical fitness standard score was 75.79 ± 10.68, 94.3% of students met the national standard, and the mean total MHT score was 35.81 ± 17.69. Boys and girls did not differ significantly in physical fitness standard scores, whereas girls had higher total MHT scores and scores on all eight dimensions than boys (all P < 0.001). Significant grade differences were found in physical fitness scores, total MHT scores, and several MHT dimensions. Physical fitness scores were very weakly and negatively correlated with the total MHT score and several dimensions. After adjustment for sex, grade, and weight status, the independent association between physical fitness score and total MHT score was not statistically significant (B = ?0.048, P = 0.086). The quadratic BMI term was also nonsignificant (P = 0.982). Conclusion: Physical fitness was generally at a qualified level in this sample, while continuous mental health scores showed sex and grade differences. The overall association between physical fitness and mental health was weak,

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2019.710028
Abstract: As a non-intellectual factor, Mathematics Adversity Quotient plays a crucial role in students’ learning of mathematics. This study adopts the modified mathematics adversity quotient table measuring left-behind and non-left-behind students’ Adversity Quotient in Chetian Minority Junior High School in Ziyuan, Guilin, Guangxi. It is found that the mathematics Adversity Quotient of non-left-behind junior high school students is generally higher than that of left-behind students, so there is a significant difference between them. Based on this situation, questionnaire survey and in-depth interview are adopted to explore the factors affecting the Adversity Quotient of left-behind junior high school students. Finally, it is concluded that home-school communication, teachers’ and parents’ care in school education have a significant influence on student’s Mathematics Adversity Quotient.
The Impact of Family Relationships on the Smoking Habits of University Students  [PDF]

Open Journal of Preventive Medicine (OJPM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojpm.2015.51002
Abstract: Smoking habits are thought to be strongly impacted by family relationships. In this study, we looked specifically at family relationships with the aim of finding effective anti-smoking education measures. We surveyed 290 university students in order to establish their current smoking habits, along with their family relationships from primary and junior high school until now. The results showed that students with one or more smokers in their family were clearly more likely to smoke. Furthermore, a poor relationship between the student’s parents and a poor relationship with his/her father are believed to have a causal relationship with the student smoking. In the section in which students were asked how often they were told to study, we found that students who smoked had been instructed to study a significantly higher number of times. It is believed that the stress experienced by students frequently told that they must study during their elementary or junior high school years leads to a tendency to smoke. Among the group of non-smokers, we found many who ate breakfast with their parents during elementary or junior high school, along with many who regularly went on holidays with their families. The lack of these things appears to distance parents from children and may be a factor regarding why children end up smoking. In this study, while no clear correlation was found between family relationships and smoking, several types of family relationships that may lead to smoking were suggested.
