Abstract:

during the school year of 2009-10, take place the first edition of the teachers' probation period. portugal. the paper presents the evaluation of this process made by the participants teachers, mentors and school directors. the quantitative and qualitative data were collected using online questionnaires, addressed to the different agents, and underwent content analysis. despite some initial resistance from teachers, it seems that all the agents recognize significant impacts of the probation period on teachers' professional development and schools' organizational development, namely in the strengthening of collaborative work between the different levels of school management and the construction of knowledge in the areas of teaching and teachers' evaluation.
