Escorpionismo del género Tityus en la sierra falconiana y su correlación con la liberación de mediadores inflamatorios y enzimas cardíacasKeywords: scorpionism, venenemia, cytokines, nitric oxide, creatinphosphoquinase-mb. Abstract: five scorpion species were identified at the falcon state mountain but only tityus falconensis was associated with the cases that developed a systemic symptomatology. in the 15 patients studied we found that venenemia, nitric oxide, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-a and creatinphosphoquinase increased with the severity of the sting. this study reveals the role of scorpion toxins on the activation of the inflammatory response. increases of the creatinphosphoquinase-mb during the first 2 hours after the accident, suggest that t. falconensis content abundant cardiotoxic toxins. we observed that glycemia and amylase were not altered by these venom and 3 of the patients studied showed altered coagulation times.
