El papel del maestro, el papel del alumno: un estudio sobre las creencias e implicaciones en la docencia de los profesores de matemáticas en PanamáKeywords: beliefs, teachers, mathematics. Abstract: beliefs have an individual and a social dimension, and have significant implications in the development of programs for teachers training. we analyze the beliefs of panamanian math teachers (belonging to pre-media and media levels) about the learning and teaching of mathematics. a likert-type instrument was used, as well as an open-answer questionnaire. the results show that the teachers have a traditional vision of mathematics and its teaching, and promote a learning process more centered in algorithmic aspects, and less centered in the solving of problems. they show as well concern for understanding their students' socio-affective factors, but at the same time, support beliefs that are contrary to their students. the results are discussed because of their implications in service teachers training.
