The Great Buddha+ is a masterpiece of magical realism that has won numerous awards. Director Huang Hsin-yao employs distinctive audio-visual techniques, starting from the material space of marginalized groups to analyze the spiritual space of the underclass, thereby presenting the complex social order space. Through such unique expressive methods, the film vividly depicts the dilemmas of social underprivileged groups and satirizes the social reality.
