Abstract:

Helicopter parenting is often characterized by intrusive involvement or providing unnecessary assistance with tasks that children could complete independently. This parenting style is typically marked by high control, high warmth, and low autonomy support, and becomes particularly prominent during emerging adulthood, such as when children enter college. This paper adopts a literature review approach to examine helicopter parenting by analyzing key aspects including its conceptualization, measurement tools, theoretical foundations, and underlying causes. Furthermore, it summarizes the current state of research on helicopter parenting and discusses potential directions for future studies within the field of psychology.
