Abstract:

The article is devoted to the description of systems of measure and measurements of English, German, Polish and Ukrainian languages. It goes about the history of measures, the origin and formation of units of measurement. It studies the synonymous and variant-synonymous relations that were presented in the nations of the studied languages. The article deals with the linguoculturo-logical semantic features of the phraseology with metrological components in English, German, Polish and Ukrainian. For the first time, phraseology with such a type of components in the four languages has been studied for distinguishing their linguistic, national and cultural peculiarities, and their semantic characteristics have been given. Phraseology with components—general names Eng. measure, Ger. Messen/Ma?, Pol. miara/miarka, Ukr. м?ра/м?рка and with descriptive names of measurement units, which denote approximate distance, length, water depth and thickness of the object, has been researched.
