Abstract:

To explore the relationship between self-esteem and social anxiety, and the mediating role of fear of positive evaluation, a survey was administered to 389 college students using the Self-Esteem Scale, Fear of Positive Evaluation Scale and Interaction Anxiousness Scale. The findings revealed that: 1) Self-esteem negatively predicted college students’ social anxiety. 2) Fear of positive evaluation had a mediated effect on self-esteem and social anxiety. This study elucidates the mechanism by which self-esteem influences college students’ social anxiety, offering important implications for targeted interventions aimed at enhancing college students’ social anxiety.
