Images of Scientists Through The Eyes of Pre-Service Teachers of Gifted Students

The purpose of this study is to investigate the images of scientists through the eyes of pre-service teachers of gifted students. The study involved 87 volunteer preservice teachers. Data gathered from Chamber (1983)’s Draw-a-Scientist Test (DAST) and open-ended questions. Students’ drawings were evaluated based on some criterions of scientist’s characteristics (e.g., appearance, gender). The results are similar to prior studies and indicate that students’ images about scientists are stereotypical; images are generally with glasses, laboratory coats, working with experiment tubes indoors; using books and dominantly alone males in laboratories
