A MODERNIZATION PRESCRIPTION: THE CONCEPT OF SCIENCE MENTALITY IN MUMTAZ TURHAN

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the concept of “science mentality” used by Mümtaz Turhan, an intellectual who brought a conservative viewpoint to Turkish modernization during the Republic Period, as a criterion for the experience of modernization and the future of modernization. In the text, in order to understand the concept of “science mentality”, the relation between tradition and modernity in social change will be mentioned and then Mümtaz Turhan's view on tradition and modernization will be evaluated. Finnaly, in the light of these evaluations, the meaning frame of the concept will be tried to be formed
