Turkish Image in German Written Children's Books: "Hatschi Bratschis Luftballon" Sample

In many German children's books with religious and historical content, Turks and Muslims are often introduced as a negative figure. In these works, the Turkish concept has been interpreted through the Ottoman invasions and the Dev？irme system. However, in the minds of children and young people, the Turks have been provided with deterrence, othering (Muslim / Christian, Oriental / Western) and hatred. In addition, terrible and monstrous Turkish portraits are drawn, and the "fear of Turk", which is expressed as "Türkenfurcht" in German, is reinforced. This study is primarily concerned with the Turkish sense of German origins published under the domination of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the mentioned works, the word of "Turk" is used as "Muslim", "Eastern" to mean "non-European". In addition to the Turkish image in these works, it is evaluated how the Turkish concept is handled in the visual children's book "Hatschi Bratschis Luftballoon". Different editions of the book at different times are compared with each other. Thus the change in the attitudes against Turkish is studied from the cover image of the book to the content itself
