The image of the Turk in the Third Crusade: The Sample of Itinerarium Peregrinorum et Gesta Regis Ricardi

Many chronicles on the Crusades exist today. Itinerarium Regis Ricardi is one of them and an outstanding example. Telling about the events of the Third Crusade the book frequently mentions the Turks and the Crusaders’ struggles against them. Thus it yields valuable evidence for understanding the image of the Turk in the minds of the Crusaders, it presents clear evidences. In this paper, based on the translation of Helen J. Nicholson, the Crusaders’ view of the Turks will be evaluated. Prominent citations are taken from the edition of 1864 by William Stubbs and translated
