Sounding Out the Gospel: Robert Jenson’s Theological Project

Robert Jenson was one of America’s most original and influential theologians. This essay provides an overview of his theological development. It argues that rather than labelling Jenson as a “Barthian” or somesuch, it is more useful to be attentive to the ways in which his thought is formed by a range of influences. It argues that his theology continued to have a Lutheran character, and offers an appreciation of the influence of Rudolf Bultmann on Jenson’s theology
