Abstract:

?directconversionofcelluloseinto5-hydroxymethylfurfural(hmf)wasperformedbyusingsingleorcombinedmetalchloridecatalystsin1-ethyl-3-methylimidazoliumchloride(cl)ionicliquid.ourstudydemonstratedformationof2-furylhydroxymethylketone(fhmk),andfurfural(ff)simultaneouslywiththeformationofhmf.variousreactionparameterswereaddressedtooptimizeyieldsoffuranderivativesproducedfromcellulosebyvaryingreactiontemperature,time,andthetypeofmetalchloridecatalyst.catalyticreactionbyusingfecl3resultedin59.9%totalyieldoffuranderivatives(hmf,fhmk,andff)fromcellulose.crcl3wasthemosteffectivecatalystforselectiveconversionofcelluloseintohmf(35.6%)withlessconcentrationsoffhmk,andff.improvingtheyieldsoffuransproducedfromcellulosecouldbeachievedviareactionscatalyzedbydifferentcombinationsoftwometalchlorides.furtheroptimizationwascarriedouttoproducetotalfuransyield75.9%byusingfecl3/cucl2combination.crcl3/cucl2wasthemostselectivecombinationtoconvertcelluloseintohmf(39.9%)withtotalyield(63.8%)offuransproducedfromthereaction.thetemperatureandtimeofthecatalyticreactionplayedanimportantroleincelluloseconversion,andtheyieldsofproducts.increasingthereactiontemperaturecouldenhancethecelluloseconversionandhmfyieldforshortreactiontimeintervals(5~20min).
