ThediscoveryofanewfamilySunopteridaefam.nov.(Insecta:Protorthoptera)fromShaanxiProvince,China, PP. 647-652 Keywords: Sunopteridaefam.nov.,MiddleTriassicEpoch,TongchuanFomation(T2t)(EuropeanLadinianStage) Abstract: ThefossilspecimensdiscussedinthispaperwerecollectedfromthegrayishgreenmudstoneandshaleintheupperpartofLowerMemberofMiddleTriassicTongchuanFormation(T2t)inShaanxiProvince,China.Venationaryfeaturecorrelationwitholdfamiliesandtaxonomicdiscussionshowthat,amongthem,onespecimencanbeassignedtoanewfamily-Sunopteridaefam.nov.,whichincludesanewgenusandspeciesandcanbereferredtoOrderProtorthopteraHandlirsch,1906intaxonomicposition,thusbelongingtoanewmemberoftheTongchuanEntomoassemblageofShaanxiEntomofauna(belongingtoShaanxiBiota).Thediscoveryofthenewfamilyanditsnewgenusandspecieshascertainreferencevaluesasfollows:①ThediscoveryofthenewfamilyanditsnewgenusandspeciesfillsfirstlythevacancyintheprotorthopterousfieldofChina;②Inthemeantime,itfillsalsothegapsofthevaluableMiddleTriassicprotorthopterousfossilspecimensbetweenLateCarboniferousandLateTriassicEpochsintheworld;③Judgingfromvenationaryfeaturesandtaxonomicposition,especiallyinthecourseoftheformationofthemergedveinofMandCu,itformedanewuniqueandparticularstyleofmergedveinM+Cu.Itnotonlyisuniqueandsimple,butalsocanbedistinguishedfromtheabovementioned10oldfamilies,thusprovidingimportanttaxonomicevidence.
