DirectHeatIntegrationofIndependentProcessesKeywords: heatintegration,independentprocesses,simultaneousoperationtime Abstract: Thepropertiesofmatchedstreams,thesimultaneousoperationtime,andthedistancebetweenintegratedprocesses,arethemainfactorswhichdeterminewhetherthedirectintegrationisfeasibleornot.Accordingtowhethersuchsyntheticintegrationiseconomicallybetterthantheseparateintegrationofeachprocess,amathematicalformulationisestablished.Theretrofitofreformingandareneprocessesinacertainpetrochemicalfactory,whichareindependenteachother,ischosenasacasestudy.Byonlyconsideringthesimultaneousoperationtime,tworetrofitdesignsareproposedoneisthateachofthetwoprocessesisseparatelyintegratedbyitself,andtheotheristhatthetwoprocessesareintegratedcomprehensively.Underdifferentsimultaneousoperationhours,theenergy-savingeffectsandtheeconomicprofitsofthetwodesignsarecalculated,andfurthermore,thecriticalsimultaneousoperationtimefordirectheatintegrationofthetwoprocessesisobtained.Whentheactualsimultaneousoperationtimeofthetwoprocessesislongerthanthecriticalvalue,thedirectheatintegrationofthetwoprocessesisbettereconomically,andotherwisetheseparateheatintegrationforeachprocessshouldbeconsidered.
