Abstract:

Asimulationsystemforpowergridwithconcentratedlarge-scalewindfarmintegrationisestablishedbasedontheelectro-magnetictransientmodelofwindturbineequippedwithdoubly-fedinductiongenerator(DFIG),whichisbuiltbyreal-timedigitalsimulator(RTDS).UsingthehardwarecommunicationinterfaceofRTDS,aclosed-looptestingexperimentisaccomplishedtostudytheimpactsoflarge-scalewindfarmsontheexistingrelayprotectiondevicesforwindfarmoutgoingtransmissionline.Thispaperpointsoutproblemsexistingincurrentrelayprotectiondevicesasfollows:faultphaseselectorcanselectunwantedphaseduetothechangesoffaultfeaturescausedbyspecialnetworkconnectionofwindfarms;blockingconditionfordistanceprotectionsneedstobere-examinedduetotheweakpower-feedcharacteristicsofwindfarms;andpowerfrequencyparameterbasedrelayprotectiondevicescannotaccuratelyoperateduetothespecialtransientvoltageandcurrentcharacteristicsofwindfarmsduringfaultperiod.Resultslaythefoundationforimprovingtheperformancesoftheexistingrelayprotectiondeviceanddevelopingnewprinciplerelayprotection.
