Impact Analyses of Wind Farm on Performances ofTransmission Line Relay ProtectionKeywords: wind,farm,transmission,line,relay,protection,doubly-fed,induction,generator(DFIG),real-time,digitalsimulator(RTDS) Abstract: Asimulationsystemforpowergridwithconcentratedlarge-scalewindfarmintegrationisestablishedbasedontheelectro-magnetictransientmodelofwindturbineequippedwithdoubly-fedinductiongenerator(DFIG),whichisbuiltbyreal-timedigitalsimulator(RTDS).UsingthehardwarecommunicationinterfaceofRTDS,aclosed-looptestingexperimentisaccomplishedtostudytheimpactsoflarge-scalewindfarmsontheexistingrelayprotectiondevicesforwindfarmoutgoingtransmissionline.Thispaperpointsoutproblemsexistingincurrentrelayprotectiondevicesasfollows:faultphaseselectorcanselectunwantedphaseduetothechangesoffaultfeaturescausedbyspecialnetworkconnectionofwindfarms;blockingconditionfordistanceprotectionsneedstobere-examinedduetotheweakpower-feedcharacteristicsofwindfarms;andpowerfrequencyparameterbasedrelayprotectiondevicescannotaccuratelyoperateduetothespecialtransientvoltageandcurrentcharacteristicsofwindfarmsduringfaultperiod.Resultslaythefoundationforimprovingtheperformancesoftheexistingrelayprotectiondeviceanddevelopingnewprinciplerelayprotection.
