Abstract:

Theionosphericresponsestotwostrongstormson17-19August2003and22-23January2004arestudied,usingthedatafromIrkutsk(52.5°N,104°E)andHainan(19.5°N,109°E)ionosphericstations.TheanalysisofvariationsinrelativedeviationsofthecriticalfrequencyΔf0F2revealedthatatmiddlelatitudes(Irkutsk)negativedisturbanceswereobservedinthesummerionosphere;positiveandnegativeones,inthewinterionosphereduringthemainandrecoveryphasesrespectively.Atlowlatitudes(Hainan),thedisturbanceswerepositiveinallthecasesconsidered.MechanismsofthedisturbanceswereanalyzedwiththeaidofempiricalmodelsoftheneutralatmosphereNRLMSISE-00andthermosphericwindHWM07.ThemainfactorsdeterminingΔf0F2variationsatmiddlelatitudesduringthestormsweredemonstratedtobethedisturbedequatorwardthermosphericwindtransportingthedisturbedatmosphericcomposition,theincreaseintheatomicoxygenconcentration,andthepassageofinternalgravitywaves.Atlowlatitudes,theeffectsassociatedwithneutralcompositionvariationsarelesssignificantthanthoseofthethermosphericwindandelectricfields.
