ACLASSOFTWO-STEPTVDMACCORMACKTYPENUMERICALSCHEMEFORMHDEQUATIONS, PP. 401-412 Keywords: TwostepTVDMacCormackscheme,MHDnumericalsimulation Abstract: Inthispaper,anewnumericalschemeofTotalVariationDiminishing(TVD)MacCormacktypeforMagnetoHydroDynamic(MHD)equationsisproposedbytakingintoaccountofthecharacteristicssuchasconvergence,stability,resolution.ThisnewschemeisestablishedbysolvingtheMHDequationswithaTVDmodifiedMacCormackschemeforthepurposeofdevelopingaschemeofquickconvergenceaswellasofTVDproperty.Toshowthevalidation,simplicityandpracticabilityoftheschemeformodellingMHDproblems,aself-similarCauchyproblemwiththediscontinuousinitialdataconsistingofconstantstates,andthecollisionoftwofastMHDshocks,andtwo-dimensionalOrszagandTang'sMHDvortexproblemarediscussedwiththenumericalresultsconformingtotheexistingresultsobtainedbytheRoetypeTVD,thehigh-orderGodunovscheme,andWeightedEssentiallyNon-Oscillatory(WENO)scheme.Thenumericaltestsshowthatthistwo-stepTVDMacCormacknumericalschemeforMHDsystemisofrobustoperationinthepresenceofverystrongwaves,thinshockfronts,thincontactandslipsurfacediscontinuities.
