InvolvementofXZFP36L1,anRNA-bindingprotein,inXenopusneuraldevelopmentDOI: 10.3724/SP.J.1141.2012.E05-06E82, PP. 82-88 Keywords: ZFP36L1,RNA-bindingprotein,Neuraldevelopment,Xenopus,Post-transcriptionalregulation Abstract: XenopusZFP36L1(zincfingerprotein36,C3Htype-like1)belongstotheZFP36familyofRNA-bindingproteins,whichcontainstwocharacteristictandemCCCH-typezinc-fingerdomains.TheZFP36proteinscanbindAU-richelementsin3'untranslatedregionsoftargetmRNAsandpromotetheirturnover.However,theexpressionandroleofZFP36genesduringneuraldevelopmentinXenopusembryosremainslargelyunknown.ThepresentstudyshowedthatXenopusZFP36L1wasexpressedatthedorsalpartoftheforebrain,forebrain-midbrainboundary,andmidbrain-hindbrainboundaryfromlateneurulastagestotadpolestagesofembryonicdevelopment.OverexpressionofXZFP36L1inXenopusembryosinhibitedneuralinductionanddifferentiation,leadingtosevereneuraltubedefects.ThefunctionofXZP36L1requiresbothitszincfingerandCterminaldomains,whichalsoaffectitssubcellularlocalization.TheseresultssuggestthatXZFP36L1islikelyinvolvedinneuraldevelopmentinXenopusandmightplayanimportantroleinpost-transcriptionalregulation.
