Characterizationof12polymorphicmicrosatellitemarkersintheChinesetreeshrew(Tupaiabelangerichinensis)DOI: 10.3724/SP.J.1141.2013.E02E62 Keywords: Chinesetreeshrew,Microsatellite,Heterozygosity,Individualidentification,Parentagetesting Abstract: TheChinesetreeshrew(Tupaiabelangerichinensis)isasmallexperimentalanimalwithacloseaffinitytoprimates.Thisspecieshaslongbeenproposedtobeanalternativeexperimentalanimaltoprimatesinbiomedicalresearch.Despitedecadesofstudy,thereisnopurebreedforthisanimal,andtheoverallgeneticdiversityofwildtreeshrewsremainslargelyunknown.Inordertoobtainasetofgeneticmarkersforevaluatingthegeneticdiversityoftreeshrewwildpopulationsandtracingthelineagesininbreedingpopulations,wedeveloped12polymorphicmicrosatellitemarkersfromthegenomicDNAofthetreeshrew.Ananalysisofawildpopulationof117individualscollectedfromthesuburbofKunming,China,showedthattheselociexhibitedahighlyexpectedheterozygosity(0.616).These12microsatellitesweresufficientforindividualidentificationandparentageanalysis.Themicrosatellitemarkersdevelopedinthisstudywillbeofuseinevaluatinggeneticdiversityandlineagetracingforthetreeshrew.
