Abstract:
?Thisstudyexploresstrategiestodevelophighlyefficientdirectcarbonfuelcells(DCFCs)bycombiningasolid-oxidefuelcell(SOFC)withacatalyst-aidedcarbon-gasificationprocess.ThissystememploysCu/CeO2compositesasbothanodicelectrodesandcarbonadditivesinacellofthetype:carbon|Cu-CeO2/YSZ/Ag|air.Thestudyinvestigatestheimpactoninsitucarbon-gasificationandDCFCperformancecharacteristicsofcatalystadditionandvariationinthecarriergasused(inertHeversusreactiveCO2).TheresultsindicatethatcellperformanceissignificantlyimprovedbyinfusingthecatalystintothecarbonfeedstockandbyemployingCO2asthecarriergas.At800℃,themaximumpoweroutputisenhancedbyapproximately40%and230%forcarbon/CO2andcarbon/catalyst/CO2systems,respectively,comparedwiththatofthecarbon/Heconfiguration.TheincreaseobservedwhenemployingthecatalystandCO2asthecarriergascanbeprimarilyattributedtothepronouncedeffectofthecatalystoncarbon-gasificationthroughthereverse-Boudouardreaction,andthesubsequentinsituelectro-oxidationofCOattheanodethree-phaseboundary.
