会议报道:北京生物入侵国际研讨会:2004年6月6日-11日, PP. 520-522 Abstract: ?Scientistsandpolicy-makersarenowwellawareoftheecologicalandsocietalproblemsassociatedwiththeintroductionofspeciesbyhumansacrossnaturalbarrierstodispersal.Someintroducedspeciesspreadabundantlyintheirnewhabitatsandhavenegativeeffectsonexistingspecies,bothagriculturalandnatural.Suchintroduced,invasivespeciescanalterfire,nutrient,andhydrologicalregimesandhavelargeeconomiccosts.Inmanypartsoftheworld,thisawarenesshascomeratherlate:commerceandtravelhavealreadycarriedlargenumbersofplants,animals,andmicrobesbetweenmanyregions.Incontrast,China'srelativeself-removefromglobaltradeduringmuchofthesecondhalfofthe20thcenturymayhaveearneditapartialreprievefrominvasionsfromabroadandreducedthenumberofinvasionsfromChinatoelsewhere.Ifso,therecouldbeanewwaveofspeciesinvasionsbetweenChinaandNorthAmericaimpending.China'stradewiththeU.S.increasedby460%from1992to2002,accordingtotheU.S.DepartmentofCommerce.ThismaybethecriticalmomenttoapplythelessonslearnedfrominvasionsacrossotheroceansandforestallnewinvasionsacrossthePacific.Weneedtomatchgrowthintradewithgrowthinthescienceandpolicyneededtopreventandcontrolintroductions.Tothisend,some100scientistsandrepresentativesofgovernmentalandnon-governmentalorganisationsfromeightcountriesgatheredonJune6-11fortheBeijingInternationalSymposiumonBiologicalInvasions,subtitled"SpeciesExchangesBetweenEasternAsiaandNorthAmerica:ThreatstoEnvironmentandEconomy".TheInstituteofBotanyoftheChineseAcademyofSciencesandtheSino-EcologistsClubOverseasorganizedthemeeting,undertheleadershipofXinguoHanandMingDongfortheInstituteandShiliMiaofortheClub.TheNationalScienceFoundationofChina,theU.S.GeologicalSurvey,andtheAsianEcologySectionoftheEcologicalSocietyofAmericaprovidedadditionalsupport.ShiliMiaoandJianhuiHuangcoordinatedtheprogramandlogistics,andtheBeijingBotanicalGardenprovidedthevenue,appropriatelystockedwithintroducedplantsfromaroundtheworld,presumablynon-invasiveones.Thereweretwokeynoteaddresses.HaroldMooney(Stanford,USA)highlightedtheneedforscientiststodevelopquantitativetoolsthatmanagerscanusetoanalyzetheextentandtheimpactsofinvasions.RichardMack(WashingtonState,USA)notedthatthephylogenetic,latitudinal,andclimaticsimilaritiesbetweenChinaandtheU.S.maypredisposeintroductionsfromonetotheothertobloomintoinvasions.The37othertalksandthepostersfocusedoncurrentpatternsofinvasionineasternAsia,thetheoryofinvasions,techniquestomanageinvasions,andpoliciestopreventthem.
