RELIQUIAS, ARTEFACTOS Y HERRAMIENTAS EDUCATIVAS: CONSERVACIóN DEL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL POR LA EDUCACIóN PúBLICA EN EL MUSEO Y CENTRO EDUCATIVO KUMATZIM JAY, TECPáN GUATEMALA, CHIMALTENANGO, GUATEMALA RELICS, ARTIFACTS, AND EDUCATIONAL TOOLS: CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION THROUGH EDUCATION AT THE KUMATZIM JAY MUSEUM AND EDUCATIONAL CENTER, TECPáN GUATEMALA, CHIMALTENANGO, GUATEMALA

Aunque se destaca la educación multicultural en el nuevo currículo a nivel primario en Guatemala en el contexto de los Acuerdos de Paz firmados en 1996, el estado actual de la ense anza formalizada en las aulas sobre la historia local y temas acerca de la identidad cultural sigue siendo mínimo. Con el propósito de construir un puente entre la población local y la historia prehispánica del área, se lanzó el Kumatzim Jay museo y Centro educativo, ubicado en tecpán Guatemala, Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Con base en la exposición provisional actual, el proyecto construirá un museo interactivo y su colección de materiales arqueológicos formará la base física del conocimiento local de la historia y cultura, y por tanto, la base de los módulos de ense anza para la conservación de ellas. Se enfocan los módulos en las áreas de Ciencias Sociales y matemática maya. Se presentan los resultados de la primera fase que incluyeron el registro, el análisis y la documentación de las piezas prehispánicas además del desarrollo inicial de los módulos educativos. Se espera generar un diálogo activo entre los miembros de la comunidad, los educadores y los arqueólogos, haciendo una articulación entre los conceptos y significados de reliquias, herramientas educativas y artefactos. Although multicultural education is highlighted in the newly developed curriculum for public primary education in guatemala in line with the Peace Accords, the current status of formalized teaching of local history and themes on cultural identity in the classrooms remains minimal. in order to build a bridge between the local community members and the prehispanic history of the area, the Kumatzim Jay Museum and educational center Project was launched in tecpán Guatemala, Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Based on the current provisional exhibition, the project aims to construct an interactive museum and educational center, its collection forming the physical basis for local history and culture, which in turn will serve as the foundation for the teaching modules with an emphasis on heritage conservation. the modules focus on the subject areas of social sciences and Maya Mathematics. the results of the first phase are presented, which include artifact registry, analysis, and documentation as well as initial development of the modules. the project aims to generate an active dialogue between community members, educators, and archaeologists, articulating the concepts and meanings of relics, educational tools, and artifacts.
