“Memory Sites Concept” or Relevance of Commemorative Vigilance of Today’s History (“France-memory” by P. Nora Case Study)Keywords: history , memory , historical memory , memory sites , commemoration , commemorative consciousness. Abstract: Analyzing the work of French sociologist P. Nora, the author considers the “memory sites”, which became widely known in foreign academic circles in late 1980s and in Russia from the early 2000s. The article defines “memory site” as it used by P. Nora. Particularly, the sociologist’s opinion that memory sites should be considered as a physical object, as well as topographic or symbolic image arouses interest.
