This article′s main objective is to prove how two basic senses-sight and sound-are integral elements in the process of observation and interpretation as ways to achieve knowledge in Edgardo Rodríguez Juliá′s narratives focusing on the 18th century. Through this process, the critic intends to prove the archeological and foundational function of Rodríguez Juliá′s narrative, which is defined by the search for the origins of nationality and protonational characteristics.
