Developing a Communications Plan for Library ScreencastsKeywords: communications plan , screencasting , video tutorials Abstract: Encouraged to explore and implement technology, many librarians create screencasts to supplement library instruction. Without a structured creation process, a number of communications issues can result, including: duplication of topics; absence of library branding; and lack of centralized availability to all screencasts. To create a more cohesive online presence, establishing a communications plan is recommended. This article is an account of the University Libraries within the State University of New York at Buffalo’s early experiences with screencasting, assessment of screencasting services, and the consequent development of a coherent communications plan and best practices document regarding video and screencast production.
