Role of Bronchoscopy in the Intensive Care UnitDOI: 10.4328 Keywords: Bronchoscopy , Critical Illness , Intensive Care Unit Abstract: Respiratory system problems are observed frequently in the intensive care units where health care are provided to critically ill patients. Bronchoscopy can be performed as a diagnostic or a treatment procedure. It is a useful method of evaluation of airways, sampling of specimens for diagnosis and also an invasive procedure where it can be performed in a near-patient settings. Bronchoscopy which is performed to critical care patients is a special and an important diagnostic and invasive procedure with the technique, indications, mechanical ventilation, risks and advantages. This article reviews the role of bronchoscopy in the intensive care unit.
