SPECIATION OF Cr3+ AND Cr6+ CONCENTRATION IN URBAN ATMOSPHERE BY SPECTROPHOTOMETRY METHOD

Industrialization and urbanization are the two major causes of deteriorating air quality. To evaluate the concentration of Cr3+ and Cr6+ in ambient air quality of the Shiraz, west southern city of Iran, suspended particulate matter was collected by a high-volume air sampler. Determination of the concentration of chromium was carried out by UV–Vis spectrophotometer after acid digestion. Maximum concentration of total Cr was 30 ng.m-3 in October, which was in permissible limit according to DOE (Department of Environment of Iran) limit threshold. Finally new and simple method to determine the Cr concentration has been found and recommended due to sensitively and accuracy. The standard addition method has been satisfaction result that was nearby amount with direct measuring with vacuum pump instrument.
