RELACIONES JESUITAS DEL TERREMOTO DE 1730: SANTIAGO, VALPARAíSO Y CONCEPCIóN JESUIT RELATIONS OF THE 1730 EARTHQUAKE: SANTIAGO, VALPARAíSO AND CONCEPCIóN

Se transcriben dos informes sobre el terremoto que devastó Chile central y otras regiones cercanas en 1730. Se trata de documentos originales, relativos a las ciudades de Santiago y Concepción, y el puerto de Valparaíso. Fueron redactados por testigos presenciales del evento, jesuitas locales que escriben a su superior en Roma para dar cuenta del suceso y de sus consecuencias catastróficas. El acento de la información está puesto sobre los antecedentes divinos que rodearon el evento, las características que tuvieron el sismo y el maremoto que, en el caso de Concepción, remecieron cuerpos, casas y conciencias, así como las condiciones materiales en que quedaron estas ciudades. Two reports have been transcribed on the earthquake that devastated central Chile and other nearby regions in 1730. These original documents relating to the cities of Santiago and Concepcion, and the port of Valparaiso, were written by eyewitnesses of the event, local Jesuits who wrote to their superior in Rome to give an account of the event and its catastrophic consequences. The focus of the information is placed on the divine history surrounding the event, the characteristics that had the earthquake and tsunami that, in the case of Concepción, rocked bodies, houses and conscientes; as well as the material conditions in which these cities were.
