Fibrinógeno YA/Y′ (gamma A/gamma Prima) características, propiedades y su posible rol en el desarrollo de trastornos cardiovasculares. Keywords: Y′ fibrinogen , cardiovascular risk , fibrinolysis , antithrombin I Abstract: YA/Y′ fibrinogen (gamma A/gamma Prima) - characteristics, and its possible role in the development of cardiovascular disorders.YA/Y′fibrinogen (gamma A/gamma Prime) isoform results from alternative splicing of fibrinogen mRNA.This variant constitutes 8% to 15% of plasma fibrinogen. Compared with YA/YA, YA/Y′fibrinogen has biochemical and physiological features. YA/Y′serves as carrier protein for Factor XIII in plasma and increases the local concentration of this factor in fibrin clots that are more extensively cross-linked by Factor XIII and are more resistant to fibrinolysis. On the other hand, YA/Y′contains a high affinity binding site for thrombin exosite II and inhibits this coagulation factor and is known as antithrombin I. Researchhas shown an association between high levels of YA/Y′and coronary artery disease. However, more recent studies reveal that low levels of this variant are related to thrombotic venous disease and this could be explained by a reduction of antithrombin I activity.
