Contacto entre lenguas locales y lenguas extranjeras. El caso de un entorno plurilingüe / Mother tongues and foreign languages in contact: the case of a multilingual context

RESUMEN: Muchos sistemas educativos habían considerado el monolingüismo como preferencia. En la actualidad, el bilingüismo y el conocer otras lenguas se presentan como opciones fundamentales en los programas de ense anza/aprendizaje de las instituciones académicas. El autor de esta reflexión se propone hablar de la situación particular de un entorno que cuenta con idiomas maternos, dos lenguas oficiales, y varias lenguas extranjeras en su política educativa. Esta realidad sociolingüística ayuda a los alumnos en su propia formación como seres humanos, en sus viajes y en las relaciones sociales que establecen para asegurar su inserción social en este mundo tan complejo. ABSTRACT: In the past, most educational systems have preferred monolingualism. Nowadays, bilingualism and the knowledge of some other languages are at the core of teaching/ learning curricula in learning institutions. The author of this article sets out to scrutinise the peculiar situation of a country whose educational policy employs many languages (native languages, but also two official and several foreign ones). This sociolinguistic reality is an asset to students in their training as human beings, during their travels, and equally in the various social relationships they build in order to facilitate their social integration in this complex world.
