Aníbal Echeverría y Reyes’ Voces usadas en Chile (1900) has been considered to be a work ahead of its time regarding the lexicographic method applied in its making. This paper analyses a micro-structural feature that reveals Echeverría as precursor of the modern contrastive-differential method in lexicography: the inclusion of comparative remarks (of a geographic and a semantic kind) on the divergences between his definitions and those included in the twelfth edition of the Spanish Royal Academy of Language’s Diccionario de la lengua castellana.
