ESPACIALIDADES E TEMPORALIDADES URBANAS NA AMAZ NIA RIBEIRINHA: MUDAN AS E PERMANêNCIAS A JUSANTE DO RIO TOCANTINS

This analysis reflects on the changes and the permanent aspects of the “ribeirinha” towns in the Brazilian Amazon, taking into consideration certain regional peculiarities and singularities as a starting point for debate. These elements are considered from the standpoint of the potential for developing policies more in tune with certain temporalities and spatialities present in this region. Accordingly, the importance and the sociospatial profile of this specific type of dwelling are laid out in this study of the urban dynamic that establishes itself as a basis for the town-river relationship. From an empirical standpoint, three specific towns are analyzed: Bai o, Mocajuba and Cametá. These are “ribeirinha” towns located down the Tocantins River, in the State of Pará, between two great modern and economically-important projects, the Tucuruí hydroelectric power station and the Albras-Alunorte industrial zone in the eastern Brazilian Amazon.
