Isaacs’ Syndrome - Clinical and Electrophysiological Response to Botulinum Toxin Type AKeywords: Isaacs’ syndrome , botulinum toxin type A , electromyography , neuromyotonia Abstract: Isaacs’ syndrome (IS) is characterized by generalized muscle twitching, stiffness, cramps and continuous muscle-fiber activity. Therapy is based on antiepileptic drugs such as phenytoin and carbamazepine. Here we report a case of 21-year-old male with IS whose continuous muscle-fiber activity diminished clinically and was documented on electromyography by Botulinum type A toxin injection. In our opinion, clinicians may consider botulinum toxin type A in either the diagnosis or the treatment of IS. (Arc-hi-ves of Neu-ropsy-chi-atry 2012;49: 77-9)
