Embora o Business Intelligence (BI) seja reconhecido como uma solu o adequada para otimizar a tomada de decis es em situa es dessa natureza, n o se encontram na literatura muitos estudos que tratem desses dois assuntos - BI e gest o de agências bancárias - de forma articulada. O artigo apresenta um estudo de caso, enfocando um grande banco comercial brasileiro, envolvendo uma situa o de aplica o de BI para a gest o operacional da rede de agências. O estudo contribui para identificar os benefícios e desafios da utiliza o de BI para essa finalidade. Bank branches operational management is a quite complex activity that involves huge volumes of information. Although Business Intelligence (BI) is often recognized as a solution for optimizing decision making in such situations, there are few studies integrating both subjects - BI and bank branches operation. This article presents a case study focused on a major Brazilian commercial bank, describing the application of BI for the operation of the branch network. The study contributes to identifying the benefits and challenges involved in applying BI for that purpose.
