This article defines the concept of network when applied to historical research, underlining the importance of social network analysis for historical studies. The article starts with a state of the art regarding the conceptualization, definition and application of the concept ‘networks’ to different disciplines, moving then towards the effects of this type of analysis among historians dedicated to themes of Economic and Social History in general.
