A Companhia de Jesus e a forma o das elites católicas no sul do Brasil / The Society of Jesus and the formation of the Catholic elites in southern Brazil

This article analyzes the relations between the Catholic Church and the formation of the Brazilian elites during the twentieth century. Specifically, this study aimed to analyze the militant Catholic elites forged through the instruments of the Jesuit Order. It is argued in this research, based on varied sources, that where the Jesuit instruments for Catholic restoration were hegemonic, as in southern Brazil, the Catholic restoration was successful, since it ensured the maintenance and reproduction of conservative Catholic thought.Este trabalho analisa as rela es entre a Igreja Católica e a forma o das elites brasileiras no século XX. De modo específico, este trabalho dedicou-se a analisar as elites católicas militantes forjadas através dos instrumentos da Ordem dos Jesuítas. Argumenta-se, nesta pesquisa, através de fontes variadas, que nos contextos em que os instrumentos de restaura o católica dos jesuítas foram hegem nicos, como no sul do Brasil, a restaura o católica foi exitosa uma vez que garantiu a manuten o e a reprodu o do pensamento católico conservador.
