We aim in this paper a first exploration of an aspect of the intellectual biography of Max Weber still to be explored: the relationship between his personal religiosity and the evolution of his social and historical thought. We shall study Weber s origins in the context of the so-called German educated bourgeoisie between his student years in Heidelberg and 1894, when he was appointed professor of political economyat Freiburg. We give here priority to the analysis of the dominant style of religiosity in Weber s social group, as well as of some of the theology works he read. At last, we try to elucidate the meaning of his self-description as religiously “unmusical”.O propósito deste artigo é fornecer subsídios para a abordagem de um aspecto da trajetória intelectual de Max Weber ainda pouco explorado: o da rela o entre a sua religiosidade pessoal e a evolu o de seu pensamento histórico-social. Estudaremos sua origem no contexto da chamada burguesia culta alem , do período em que viveu comoestudante em Heidelberg ao ano de 1894, quando foi nomeado professor de economia política em Freiburg. Priorizaremos a análise do estilo de religiosidade dominante em seu grupo social, bem como algumas das obras de teologia que leu com vistas à elucida o do sentido da sua autodefini o como um homem “amusical” do ponto de vista religioso.
