This article examines the history of Ayazma and argues that the religious and political significance of Ayazma was carried to the Ottoman period. The district of Ayazma in üsküdar is located between emsi Pa a and hsaniye districts and it overlooks the Bosphorous and the Marmara Sea. The Rüstem Pasha family improved the district with their charity and built a water fountain, a school, and the road along with a palace and a garden. The mosque built in the palace garden in the second half of the 18th century has ever since remained as the silhouette of üsküdar.
