REFLEXIONES ACERCA DEL OBJETO Y METAS DE LA PSICOLOGíA COMO UNA CIENCIA NATURAL/ REFLECTIONS ABOUT THE SUBJET-MATTER AND GOALS OF PSYCHOLOGY AS A NATURAL SCIENCE

RESUMENSe define como objeto de conocimiento de la psicología el comportamiento individual entendido como las interaccionesdel individuo con objetos específicos en su medio. A partir de ahí, se establecen las diferencias entre los campos propios dela psicología y las ciencias sociales, por un lado, y frente a las ciencias biológicas, por el otro. A continuación se describenlas metas científicas que se derivan de tal caracterización del objeto de estudio. Estas metas son la descripción, la explicación,la predicción y el control. Las dos últimas no se asumen necesariamente en el sentido de predicción y control prácticos, perosí como criterios de validación de la explicación científica.ABSTRACTIt is defined as subject matter of psychology the individual behavior, being understood as such the interactionsbetween an individual with specific objects and events in his or her environment. From here, it is posed the differencesbetween the proper fields, on one hand, of psychology and social sciences, and, on the other, psychology and biology.Then, the scientific goals of psychology, derived from the characterization of its subject matter, are described. They aredescription, explanation, prediction and control. These two last are not to be necessarily assumed in the sense of practicalprediction and control, but are as criteria for validation of scientific explanation.
