Abstract:

This study seeks to demonstrate two different views on history and time in G. W. F. Hegel’s work Philosophy of history and M. Eliade’s Myth of eternal return. The study characterizes and confronts both conceptions; Hegel’s “historical” view, which represents occidental way of thinking, and the “ahistorical” perception of history, represented by Eliade’s archaic ontology. At the same time the study looks for common features in their approaches to this matter. It also analyzes Eliade’s references to Hegel’s perception of history and points out the historical context of both works.
