Plate drag reduction with low surface energy coating in water tunnel

Conclusion The drag of the flat plate model showed that the low surface energy coating models were capable of reducing drag (18%–30%) in a certain range of speed. For a solid with a low surface energy that has low tensile strength, the effect of surface characteristics on the turbulent structure is measured and a significant difference between Al plate and plate covered coating of low surface energy is found. The tensile slrength of the bond between water and solid material is the predominant parameter.
