Research of cross-layer scheme for fast handover in mobile WiMAX networks

To improve heavy overhead and long detection latency while implanting FMIPv6 and DAD mechanism for fast handover in mobile WiMAX networks, this paper proposed a cross-layer fast handover scheme. In proposed scheme, used FMIPv6 and mSCTP, and considered ODAD mechanism also. It not only eliminated the overhead of establishing tunnel, but also reduced the overhead of address detection. Evaluating performance of proposed scheme with NS2, simulation results show the packet loss and the handover latency are significantly improved, up to 65% and 60% respectively.
