Downlink channel dynamic contention free access mechanism based on IEEE 802.11e EDCA

Abstract:
The IEEE amendment standard IEEE 802.11e was presented for QoS (quality of service) improvement of WLANs, but the enhanced channel access mechanism could not perfectly satisfy the application scenario of IPTV or video on demand. This paper proposed a new easy-implemented downlink channel dyuamic contention free access mechanism for this class of application scenario. This mechanism tuned downlink channel access parameters based on MAC layer queue length and could provide efficient protection for the downlink multimedia stream transmission. Simulation results validate the proposed mechanism is efficient and useful.
